Calcite is a mineral that forms mostly in limestone deposits and caves, and can exhibit a wide range of colors depending on the impurities and trace elements it absorbs from the surrounding area. Pink calcite contains small amounts of manganese in its crystalline structure, and may faintly fluoresce orange under ultraviolet light depending on the exact amount. Calcite with a higher concentration of manganese will glow brighter, and is called manganoan or mangano calcite.
