Labradorite is a type of feldspar that was first discovered in Labrador, Canada, which is where it gets its name. Some labradorite, when illuminated at the right angle, can display a beautiful iridescence which has been named labradorescence.  The iridescence occurs because of internal structures that reflect light in a certain way.
