Ema eggs are the trade name for stones that are put through a fast tumbling process. These pieces of crystal and rose quartz, amethyst, smoky quartz, and other minerals develop a frosted rough rind through this tumbling, and one face receives a more polished flat surface. These egg-shaped stones resemble eggs of the rhea, or Brazilian ostrich, which in Portuguese are known as "ovo de ema."
