Bloodstone, or heliotrope, is a cryptocrystalline mixture of quartz that occurs mostly as jasper or sometimes as chalcedony. The "classic" bloodstone is opaque green jasper with red inclusions of hematite, but the stone can also include brown, yellow, and even white inclusions. Red inclusions may resemble spots of blood, hence the name bloodstone.
